Kenosha Pass - Gateway to mountain biking and hiking fun!

Kenosha Pass is just a few minutes drive away from Bailey Lodge and may well be one of the most photographed automobile passes in Colorado. From the top of Kenosha Pass the highly rated, nationally recognized Colorado Trail (#1776) crosses Highway 285 and continues its way across the entire state of Colorado. In this particular segment of the Colorado Trail, some of the most scenic views of the Continental Divide span the horizon. Trail conditions are excellent with plenty of challenges for the experienced rider. Less accomplished riders will enjoy the trail as well and can easily hike-a-bike around or through anything that looks "iffy."

Hikers love the Colorado Trail as well as mountain bikers. A day-pack with a packed lunch will provide a full day of enjoyable sightseeing on foot. In winter the trail is especially fun with snowshoes or cross-country skis although many peiople prefer doing the trail on snowshoes as negotiating some of the heavily wooded sections can be challenging on skis. Sections of the trail with southern exposure can melt off quickly and be entirely devoid of snow. In such cases snowshoes easily slip off to be carried to the next section of trail where dense stands of lodge pole pines protect the snow from intense Colorado sunshine. In winter the trail is as beautiful as any other time of the year. Don't forget sun screen!
