Local Recreation

Mountain Biking

We are probably best known for the Buffalo Creek Recreational Area biking and have riders come from all over the country and Europe to give it a try. Buffalo Creek Recreational Area
Bailey is also home to the wonderful and annual Hundo Bike Race. Again, we have riders from all over the country come to participate. Hundo Bike Race

Fishing

A major seasonal attraction, fishermen from all over the country to fish the area. With some of the best private fishing ranches minutes away, the Bailey Lodge is a great fishing hotel in the Rocky Mountains. We love having the many guests who fish these three ranches as they always come back in a great mood. Some of these ranches near the Bailey Lodge fishing hotel in the Rocky Mountains are:

Hiking / Mountain Passes / Four Wheeling

First, a great hiking link right here: Great Hiking
Staunton State Park is a cool and popular destination for hiking the Rocky Mountain near our hotel in Bailey.
We have the Mount Evans Wilderness over the ridge to our north and the Lost Creek Wilderness right behind us. The famed Colorado Trail runs the length of the wildness with several close-by trail heads for access and it crosses the highway at the top of Kenosha Pass, 20 minutes from here. This makes the Bailey Lodge one of the best hiking hotels in the Rocky Mountains.

Don't forget the larger Pike National Forest and its many foot and vehicle trails.

For those with less-than-ideal physical abilities, we are near Wilderness on Wheels, a wonderful wilderness getaway.

The turnoff for Guanella Pass is 20 minutes for here, going about timberline on a beautiful new paved road, going by some of our best-known 14,000 foot peaks (and their trailheads). It's gorgeous.

Don't forget Boreas Pass on the way to Breckenridge ski resort, another fun getaway.

History / General

We are in a very historic area tied back to the amazing gold rush in Colorado in 1859. At one time the highway in front of the lodge had tracks instead of pavement for the narrow gauge steam engines; the dirt road behind us was the for the stagecoaches. The history goes on from there in any direction.

Small but worth seeing, just 5 minutes from here, McGraw Park: http://parkcountyhistory.com

If you keep going over must-see Guanella Pass you descend into the historic and fun town of Georgetown. History, shops, restaurants and galleries.
